Our friends in Chicago

We hate to break it to you but Chicago has bed bugs!

But there is hope.

I want to introduce you to an utterly charming, warm and very funny Chicagoan, Jessican Kevan.

Jessica came and saw… and had a thought or two about how to do it better in Chicago!

And so, behold: Chicago vs Bed Bugs.

You are going to love Jessica—I have already learned so much from her these past few weeks. She is wonderful, sharp and generous (I’m not sure she realizes just how much she is helping me in our weekly calls) and her ambitions for Chicago vs Bed Bugs are humbling. We are in her corner. We hope that you will be too.

It may be unfortunate, this great divide between the cities that get it and the cities that want to pretend that bed bugs are… self-limiting? But we can’t spend too much time wondering when things are going to change. We can make change ourselves.

We are committed to this idea: we can persuade those who do not yet understand. We are talking about an insect that is a survivalist expert and we are indeed overmatched. But we can rise to the challenges together.

We are anxious for there to be a public conversation about bed bugs everywhere and so we will be watching and learning from Chicago vs Bed Bugs. We can’t wait to see what happens next!

Yes, we are incredibly, overwhelmingly flattered by Chicago vs Bed Bugs. (Personally, I don’t know the last time I felt this flattered but I think it was one day in kindergarten recess and I’m pretty sure it involved a boy and a lunchbox.)

Yes! I am very hopeful and encouraged and feel less alone. And the outline of the Chicago vs Bed Bugs strategy is very promising. Can’t wait to see where it leads.

Renee, I’m blushing over here in the windy city! Thank you for your kind words. And thank you so much for all your help with getting Chicago vs. Bed Bugs up and running. I couldn’t have done it without you.

We are truly in this together now, for better or worse, and it does feel so good, doesn’t it?

To nobugs and the rest of New York vs. Bed Bugs, I am honored to follow in your footsteps, to learn from you, and to share my (hopefully soon to be “our”!) experiences with you so that you might learn, too.

Thanks again, Renee. I’ll keep you all posted. Wish me luck!

    :)
