We still need you to contact your lawmakers, make them aware of your struggles with bed bugs, and ask them to establish a city-wide task force to address the many problems that can be alleviated.
Anyone who has had bed bugs will tell you that they don’t go away on their own.
When we talk to experts and professionals, they don’t have any words of comfort, very little optimism. It’s going to be up to us to keep our city livable. I’m sure you are seeing what we are seeing: people struggling with intractable infestations, with repeat infestations, with no support or direction and no hope in sight.
The city will now not even provide community bed bug workshops unless asked. And if you call 311, you’ll quickly discover that there is no way to ask. The magic number* is not provided, nor will they transfer your call. This is a big step in the wrong direction. If we all continue to struggle in silence, the city will continue to ignore this problem.
The only good news is what is happening elsewhere. Other cities are leading by example and we can learn from their efforts and educate our elected representatives about what can be done. We can do this together.
Please participate in our campaign for a bed bug task force. You can do it online here if you have limited time.
Thank you.
We will also gladly take your advice and moral support and any time or experience you can volunteer.
