Yes!
I noticed this building because it strikes me that the story told by these reports over a period of 7-8 months is the story of bed bugs in our city.
So, now they have a commitment from the management to do a comprehensive treatment.
Good, good.
We’re big on giving unsolicited advice, so here are some thoughts:
- Consult with the pest management company and discuss drilling and dusting every apartment along that wall;
- If the building can afford thermal, Vikane, dogs, go for it (but a good idea is to make sure a human confirms any dog alerts);
- With bed bugs in the building structure, don’t waste your time with that frozen CO2 snow technology;
- Compare the process and protocol of the pest management company to that described in this document (PDF) — careful, methodical inspection is key; the 10-minute bed bug job is the enemy, about as helpful as the bed bugs themselves;
- Make sure everyone in the building, not just in the identified apartments with infestations, knows what all life stages of bed bugs look like—see also slide 3 in this presentation by Dr. John Anderson (PDF)—and the basics of bed bug awareness; and
- Make sure there is a solid schedule for re-inspections and re-treatments — everything hinges on breaking their reproductive cycle and killing the very last bed bug (hey, it can be done).
Wouldn’t it be awesome for this building to make it?
I’m rooting for them.
