The Star is reporting that the Province of Ontario will fund educational and assistance programs for the province with 5 million dollars. Local public health units will be able to apply for funds and the province will fund a public education campaign.

For the sake of national bed bug summit completism, I should note what you surely have already heard, that EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs is hosting another summit this year on February 1-2, 2011. Details and registration here.
Community bed bug forum in Council District 2
A friend of New York vs Bed Bugs has forwarded information about another bed bug event that is scheduled for January 18. Council Member Rosie Mendez and HPD are offering an educational session on January 18. This is the same day of the Museum of the City of New York bed bug program. I’m very sorry for the conflict, but it must be a sign of changing times that there are two bed bug public events on the same day in NYC. Unthinkable in the recent past.

Despite its disobliging disposition, the bed bug must eventually give up its secrets to researchers.
This process is slow and apparently fraught with failure, but what is being learned is there for us to read and understand if only we can get past the language and shorthand that are not meant for us — and in most cases there is in fact no other way to access this information. This is not a simple matter and is, for me at least, a constant struggle.

Wilbur A. Sawyer was an American tropical disease specialist. His wife, Margaret, was a bacteriologist who left her own career in medicine when they married. The family was relocating to New York City in the fall of 1924 but Dr. Sawyer was still in Alabama.
